Sandy L. Burkart PT, OCS, PhD will present a comprehensive program on the rehabilitation management of acute and chronic neck pain. Diagnostic criteria and phased rehabilitation protocols will be presented. An extensive evidenced based reference list will be provided as well as detailed manual outlining course content. There will be 14 contact hours for hands-on practice of specific examination, manual therapy and rehabilitation techniques and to ask important clinical questions to our presenters. 1.4 approved CEUs will be given to each participant for 14 contact hours.

Workshop Objectives

Upon the completion of this workshop, the practitioner will be expected to:
  1. Understand current theoretical and practice paradigms for cervical pain rehabilitation
  2. Demonstrate clinical examination skills of the cervical and thoracic spine
  3. Identify the diagnostic importance of radiological data for determining the most appropriate therapeutic intervention(s)
  4. Identify "behavioral and medical red flags" for patient referral and/or consultation
  5. Synthesize examination findings to identify movement impairment syndromes leading to specific rehabilitation strategies
  6. Identify valid and reliable functional outcome measures
  7. Add to your existing clinical skills: facet joint mobilization; soft tissue techniques; therapeutic exercise, active therapeutic movement; manual and mechanical traction; segmental spinal stabilization; functional training; and movement re-education
  8. Identify surgical criteria and appropriate pain management referral procedures
  9. Understand phased post-operative rehabilitation protocols
  10. Observe and perform functional stabilization training exercises for preventing cervical pain recurrences.
  11. Benefit from intensive hands-on laboratory instruction
  12. Identify and locate pertinent references for evidenced based practice
